At The Lesson Shop, we are committed to protecting your privacy whenever you use our service. We know how important it is to keep your personal data safe, so we strive to provide the highest standard of service whilst ensuring your privacy is always protected.

Collecting certain data allows us to monitor how effectively our website is performing and how easy it is for you to find the information you need, as well as make continual improvements to the service that we offer.

For Students who have registered, the personal data we collect from you includes:

  • The information you provide upon registration (name, contact number, post code)
  • Your email address and marketing preferences when you sign up
  • Which lessons you have registered an interest in (clicked through to third party website or contact page)

For Teachers who have registered, in addition to the above we may also collect data to ensure the lessons offered comply with our terms of service. This may include but is not limited to one or more of the below:

  • Identification documents
  • Criminal background checks
  • Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) registration confirmation (for driving instructors)
  • Confirmation of motor vehicle insurance
  • Confirmation of public liability insurance
  • Confirmation of professional indemnity insurance
  • Confirmation of the relevant qualifications required to conduct lessons
  • Confirmation of the right to work in the UK

We use Google Analytics software to collect anonymous data (including IP addresses) about how people use our website. We do not store or have access to your personal information through Google Analytics and we are not able to identify you through analytics information, nor will we combine analytics information with any other data in a way that would identify who you are. Google Analytics provides us with anonymous data including:

  • The pages you visit on our website
  • How long you spend on each page
  • How you got to the website
  • What you click on while you’re on the website

The main use for the data we collect is so we can continually monitor and improve the service we offer. In addition to this we may also use your data for the following purposes;

  • To enable you access to parts of the website only available to registered users (personal account section, lesson search history, personal bio, lesson details)
  • To provide information on other lessons or services which we feel may be of interest to you because you have expressed an interest and have consented to receive such information
  • To notify you about any changes to our website that may affect the service that we offer
  • If you are a Student, we will pass your contact information on to Teachers where you have expressed an interest in their Lesson
  • If you are a Teacher, we will use your data to put you in touch with Students that have expressed an interest in your service
  • If you are a Teacher, we screen and verify your application to ensure that you have the relevant qualifications, insurances or approvals to legally conduct lessons in the UK
  • If you are a Teacher, your identity documents will allow us to ensure only the listed Teacher conducts lessons on behalf of the registered individual/company
  • If you are a Teacher and have provided details of individuals you wish to provide a reference on your behalf, we may contact those individuals and request feedback on your suitability to register on The Lesson Shop. This feedback may be used to form an online review and rating. We will not store the contact data of the reference

If you are using The Lesson Shop as a registered Teacher, we may disclose some of your personal information (that forms your public profile and Lesson details) to a Student that has visited your website via our website or expressed an interest in your service. The details provided may include your name, contact details and address, in order for them to approach you for your services.

If you are using The Lesson Shop as a registered Student, we may disclose your personal information (that forms your public profile) to a Teacher that you have contacted or expressed an interest in their service, which may include your first name, and contact details, in order for them to provide their services to you.

We will not sell or rent your data to third parties and we will not share your data with any third parties, outside of The Lesson Shop platform, for marketing purposes.

In the event that we sell part or all of The Lesson Shop to a buyer or enter into a joint venture with another business entity, your information may be disclosed or transferred to the new business or owners.

We may also disclose your personal information to third parties where we are legally required to do so to assist in any criminal investigations.

You have the right to request information about how your personal data is processed and to obtain a copy of the personal data we have on file for you. You can also request that anything inaccurate in your personal data is corrected. If you have any concerns, you can raise an objection about how your personal data is processed, or request that your personal data is removed from our systems. Protecting the privacy of children is vitally important to us. The Lesson Shop does not knowingly collect personal information from persons under 16 years of age, and no part of The Lesson Shop service is directed to persons under the age of 16.

The lesson category advertised as “Children’s Lessons” is designed to help parents or carers find suitable services for children under their supervision. This is not a service designed to help children find or attend lessons without the involvement or supervision of a parent or carer.

We continuously test and monitor our website security and data protection practices to make sure your personal data is never knowingly compromised. We place a strong emphasis on ensuring your data is protected from unauthorised access or accidental loss. The Lesson Shop will never sell or rent your data to third parties and we will not share your data with any third parties, outside of The Lesson Shop platform, for marketing purposes.
