Dance schools are a fantastic way for children to get active, stay fit and potentially find a hobby that becomes a passion. Dancing is a great way for children to improve their balance, coordination, agility, flexibility and other aspects of core mobility, as well as improve personal and social skills such as team work, communication, self confidence and respect for themselves and others.

It is common for dance schools to separate classes into similar age groups to ensure the children are working with others of similar ability, but will often also encourage younger students to watch and learn from the older groups as a means of motivation and inspiration. Boys and girls will usually be mixed in these classes – it is a common mistaken belief that dance is considered an activity for girls rather than boys and participation amongst boys is becoming more common.

Dance schools often teach a variety of dance styles and disciplines such as:

  • Ballet
  • Tap dance
  • Modern Theatre
  • Jazz
  • Contemporary Dance
  • Street
  • Hip Hop
  • Cheer-leading
  • Free Style
